山寺（宝珠山 立石寺）
やまでら （ほうじゅさん りっしゃくじ）

「閑さや 岩にしみ入る 蝉の声」。
江戸の俳諧師・松尾芭蕉が有名なこの句を詠んだのが、ここ「山寺」。
山形を代表する観光スポットです。

Yamadera (houjyu san, Risshakuji)

Haiku poet in Edo, Matsuo Basho composed famous phrase here “Yamadera(temple in mountain)”.  Tourist attraction which represents Yamagata.

正式には「宝珠山 立石寺」。
貞観2年（860年）に清和天皇の勅命で、慈覚大師・円仁が開山したとされる天台宗の名刹。
奇岩や岸壁に張り付くように点在する石碑やお堂は、山と信仰を結びつけてきたこの地ならではの神秘的な佇まい。
見る者を魅了します。

Famous temple of the Tendai Buddhist Denomination by which Jikaku Daishi, Ennin set up at year of 860 by the Emperor Seiwa’s Imperial order.

Monuments and temples are located on strangely shaped rocks and tombstones, it shows mysterious appearance where belief has been tied up with a mountain.

Visitors are charmed by seeing this temple..

山門から奥の院まで続く苔むした石段は、全部で1015段！
冬は雪道となりますので、滑らない靴でご参拝ください。
※歩きやすく整備されているので、冬以外はフラットシューズ（スニーカー）を履いてチャレンジを。

あたりの空気は聖域そのもので、一段一段登るごとに、煩悩が消えていくと言われています。
登り切ったその先にはご褒美のような絶景が！
名物の玉こんにゃくも忘れずに。

Mossy stone steps which lead to from the gate to Oku no in, altogether, 1015 steps!

Winter will be a snowy road, so please go and worship with the shoes which aren’t slippery.

※ It’s easy to walk and maintained, please wear something comfortable to walk.  

Sacred precinct and climbing every step, it’s said that a worldly desire is going off.

When you have finished climbing, it’s a superb view like reward ahead of it!

Please make sure to eat famous Tama konnyaku (made from grated konjak yam)
